Supporting energy independence and a cleaner, low-carbon environment through expanded use of natural gas, renewables and efficiency.
On June 25, 2010, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Energy Initiative capped a two year study on the role of natural gas in a carbon-constrained world by issuing an interim 83-page report titled “The Future of Natural Gas.”
The report details the substantial recent increase in the U.S. natural gas resource base and, among other things, recommends expanded use of gas in the nation's power and transportation sectors.
In response to MIT's report, Gregory C. Staple, CEO of the American Clean Skies Foundation, said:
"There is no longer any doubt that we have the capacity to repower our electricity sector and immediately begin to move away from dirtier fuels. The MIT report demonstrates that. It’s now up to the Administration and Congress to ensure that any new energy legislation contains a robust natural gas title that reflects these findings."
